Good luck working out how the Australian pricing plans for the iPhone from Optus fit with Steve Jobs’ promise of the 8Gb iPhone for $199 worldwide and $299 for the 16Gb. (I know those prices were part of a plan with AT&T, but it’s still unclear).

When it comes down to it, the 8Gb iPhone is $729 on a pre-paid plan which you can then un-lock for use on any carrier for $80.
