A bit of fear mongering by the smh.com.au in their article Inside the cookie monster – trading your online data for profits which discusses the use of cookies set by your web browser (at the request of a web-site you visit) to track your movements and interests. More precisely, it’s the cookies that are set by a third party that are of concern.

Really, privacy has changed. The generation that I’m teaching at high school really don’t seem concerned about their privacy at all.

If you’re using Firefox you can disable third-party cookies, although that may break more than just cookies set by advertisers.
Personally, I like the ad-free internet provided by Adblock Plus.
