Looking to add playable MP3s to your site, check out Yahoo! Media Player. But adding a single call to a script, any MP3 on a page gains a play button, which when pressed pops out a nifty little player. V. nice. A very easy option for Church web-sites.

Planning Center is an online based organiser for putting together a church service. It includes heaps of features for organising church musos. Here’s a quick intro video to see what I mean.

It’s not free however, well there is a free version, but it can only roster 10 people. So, to do one service at TAC it would be $14US/month, $29US/month for 2 services.

A similar application is Church Director, but it’s major flaw is the lack of a song database. In talking with the developer, there’s no plan for a song databse.

I’d still like to see free open source software to do this. I started building something a while back, but it was more a project to get me started with CodeIgniter.

A video explaining wikis. It makes a good point that groups are still using email to organise things.

It seems to me that churches should start making use of wikis – some possibilities include storing documentation and sharing bible studies, as well as planning events and keeping an index of groups.

If you’re at TAC and are interested in contributing to a wiki, let me know – there’s already a wiki running on our church site.

A while back, I pointed to a post on another blog about 3 videos every church should have.

Here’s an example of a church in the Sydney Anglican Diocese with the first video, an introduction video on YouTube: Summer Hill Anglican Welcome Message. The video is also on their site.

An excellent article from ourchurch.com about three videos every church website should have. Photos are better than text, but videos are even better than photos – particularly when you’re trying to show visitors to your website what your church is like. Any volunteers at TAC? Maybe a 2007 project.

Whilst you can easily add video to your website with the help of YouTube, DreamHost have made it easy for their customers providing conversion facilities and a flash media player on their media site.
