TACWeb Redesign Part 3 - Front Page

Date Stamp:
21 June 2005

Continuing the TACWeb Redesign series, this article considers the front/home page of the web-site.

The current home page is full of information, probably a little too much. So, following on from the discussion of target Audience this article begins to get a bit more specific, looking at the content of the home page.

Thinking about the target audience, and trying to keep it simple, the front page might look something like:

Visitors

Visitors would be presented with a brief welcome message, that would link to further detail about Christianity, our regular Church meetings and activities.

Optional content depending on space might include:

  1. a line or two about some of our key outward facing activities, like, Sunday Church meetings, One80 Youth Group and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
  2. a brief paragraph about the church.

Members

Members are likely to be more interested in three pieces of content:

  1. brief listing of what’s happening this week at church (in the Sunday meetings)
  2. latest sermons available on the site and,
  3. the rolling blog content

Members might also be looking for other helpful content like rosters, but rather than providing links, I think a specific Members item on the main menu would be good.

If you’re a member of Toongabbie Anglican or someone who would fit into the Visitor category, what would you expect/like to see on the front page of a Church web-site?
