Which Twitter app?

Categories: Web Life,

This post will be irrelevant as of next week when I’m back at work and have minimal net access, and next to no Twitter access during the day, but for now I’m procrastinating and frustratingly ignoring the work that I should be doing.

Anyway, which Twitter app should I use? I haven’t found the perfect one yet.

TweetDeck is really well thought out and my current favourite. I love that it has a separate column for replies because otherwise I will miss them. But there are some annoying things:

  • always opens in a 3 column view, meaning there’s one empty column wasting space.
  • generally the interface wastes a lot of space
  • doesn’t show “in reply to” link

Twitterrific the nicest interface, but no way to show replies out of line.

Twhirl, meh, not sure… seems like I should like it, but I just don’t.

What are you using?

Tweetdeck as I am monitoring a couple of searches as well as my tweet stream.

Twhirl borked behind our firewall at work and seems flaky most of the time.

Twitterific on the iphone but it is a bit sparse on features.

Twitter – yes I do use the Twitter web site as well.

I have Twitbin for Firefox, but it’s slow and forgets my details too often, so I’ve stopped using it. I just use the website.

Twhirl… i didn’t know there were so many other options! I’d like on that would allow me to see not only twitter feed, but also my friend’s facebook status’s (selected friends)

Tim, one way to get Facebook Status:

Adium, IM client for Mac OSX, includes Facebook chat ability. Then you can see online Facebook users in Adium, and it shows their status – although, it doesn’t show status of offline people.

Take a look at EventBox

Nice way of doing things I think although I did use Twitterific for quite a while which is also great.

Best wishes,

Mark

Yep that it is wink

Really nice to keep all social programs in one place like that. Saves me hours per day I reckon.

I found a site that asks (and answers) this very question. It has honest reviews and recommendations for Twitter apps of all types.

Search by platform/OS, device, or a particular feature you’re interested in. The reviews are thorough and many factors are taken into consideration, including feature set, ease of use, and price, among other things. Check it out!
