Looking to buy a new monitor this break.

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed that my monitor died. A very lovely 19” CRT, still better than many LCDs I’ve seen – well, not anymore, the picture is squished.

What brand/model LCD are you using? My only spec would be a resolution of 1920 × 1200. Don’t worry if your recommendation isn’t for that resolution though, as I’m interested in thoughts on quality.

Anyone using a Dell monitor? And have you observed the difference between a normal Dell monitor and an Ultrasharp?

We use Dell exclusively at work, and there are many UltraSharp and Entry monitors. For 1920×1200 you are looking at least 24”. You could almost get a Dell 24” Entry for less than $350 a few days ago when they had a $100 off promotion… And UltraSharp is about twice that.

UltraSharp is (I think) S-IPS panel to give you real 24 bit colour, wide viewing angle, etc. Entry is TN panel which has dithering fake 24 colours, narrower viewing angle, but faster response speed and much cheaper. If you do a lot of work with “colour” then I think there’s not much choice. Otherwise the same amount of money could get you 2× 24” Entry side by side smile

So I got a Dell E248WFP (entry level 24”), they had another $100 off promotion.

The amount of screen real estate is awesome. 1080p HD trailers look great. The Macbook seems to coping well.
