Macworld 2008

In 2007, Macworld Expo set the tone for the year with the announcement of the iPhone. What’s in store for 2008?

The iPhone set the tone, not so much for it’s phone capabilities, but for bridging the gap between computers and phones; setting a higher standard in user interfaces; and for introducing an internet connected device that’s not a PC, that didn’t rely on mobile-specific web-sites.

In 2008, rumours suggest iPhone ver 2, and a sub-notebook. Follow the rumours on a site like Mac Rumors.

The one prediction I have is that Macworld will define the future of the Apple TV which in turn describes Apple’s interest in the loungeroom. If it’s upgraded to the device everyone thinks it should be (more open, not reliant on iTunes purchased content), then Apple are keen to stick around in the loungeroom. If not, then they’ll quietly bow out of that market.

I’m hoping it’s upgraded (and a price drop), it looks like a really nice device, but currently a little too pricey just to get my music library to another room.

Before I got to post this, Mac Rumors are reporting that Apple will announce movie rentals through iTunes at Macworld – this would happen through the Apple TV.
