Apple release the first Macs with Intel.
Firstly, the iMac with Intel. 2x faster than the G5 Intel. iMac – 17-inch 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo, from A$1999. 20-inch 2GHZ from A$2649.
And, the MacBook Pro (obviously they struggled with that name). 4-5x faster than the G4 PowerBooks. Sounds like a nice machine. MacBook Pro – 15.4” 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, from A$3199. MacBook Pro – 15.4” 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo, from A$3999. The price difference accounts for RAM, HD and Graphics.
Apple’s Intel page explains the processor. Both machines are using dual-core processors – the Intel Core Duo. Oh, and don’t miss the amusing Intel + Apple Ad.
Apple’s OS and core apps are all native on Intel. Other apps due by the end of the year, although current versions will run on the emulation layer “Rosetta”.
Obviously any Apple focussed site is pumping out the stories today, if you’re looking for more details.
It will be interesting to see the value and performance comparisons as they are published.
Other releases were the Radio Remote for the iPod and a very nice Podcast creation features (including royalty free sounds) in GarageBand.
Update: The first of the comparisons: Intel vs PowerPC and Apple Intel vs Acer Intel. [via Scoble]
