Podcasting is changing people’s viewing/listening habits. Me, I used to listen to ABC Newsradio or BBC Worldservice whilst sitting at my PC for hours on end, with the occasionally change to some music. Now, I can fill up hours with podcasts. I tend to listen to tech podcasts, simply because I can choose to tune in and out. The mainsteam media has never really dealt with tech, they either dumb it down, or simply consider the business/enterprise impact.
The TWiT growing stable of shows is an exceptional example of quality content, available for free. Just looking through my archives on this site, I haven’t really mentioned TWiT before.
I first found TWiT through the This Week In Tech podcast. A round-table discussion on all things tech, probably focussing on the net and media. This has since expanded to include shows focussing on more specific areas of tech (e.g. net, media, security, gadgets). See TWiT on iTunes for a full-list of shows.
Macbreak is a newer show, only up to episode 7. Different because it’s a video podcast… special because they’re encoding in high-def (540p), and they have “built” a virtual studio. The high-def is excellent, because when they do a screen shot, you can actually read the screen! This week, they look at the new Apple MacBook.
Some other tech podcasts I listen to (been meaning to do this list for a while):
- Between the lines (ZDNet)
- Buzz Out Loud (CNet, a daily discussion, real journalists, good quality, around 30 min)
- Turn up the volume on News.com (CNet, daily tech news, short)
- CrankyGeeks (round table, video, weekly)
- Digital Planet (BBC, weekly, interest level varies)
