So, a little more on the Jod.

I wanted to listen to a podcast whilst doing some stuff around the house today. I was already 48 minutes through a 1 hr 13 minute podcast (MacBreak Weekly 23: Live From Macworld to be specific).

So I stopped the podcast and synced the Jod. When I started the podcast on the Jod, it started from where I had left off on the PC. Resuming from where you left off on a different machine – very nice.

As a sidenote, this MacBreak Weekly episode was recorded with a Dolby Headphone technology that allows you to place a source in the soundscape. My thesis supervisor had an interest in this technology (and an association with the company that originally developed it) – for my thesis I created a system that allowed you to place a single source, in real-time, in a 3D space around the listener. This technology is not just panning left-right, but allows elevation and you can also determine front-back. Have a listen to the podcast through headphones, it’s a very natural way of listening to a conversation.

I have also listened to that MacBreak Weekly, the sound was great. It was like being in the room.
