In search of a better volume control - part 2

Date Stamp:
7 November 2006

I know some readers were amused by my first search for a better volume control, also known as procrastination. So, here’s part two.

One of the problems with Volumouse, the solution found in part 1, was the requirement for holding a key down and scrolling the mouse wheel. Meaning, you couldn’t really change volume with one hand, well not easily.

So, next stop: VolumeTray. From their web-site:

VolumeTray is a litlle (sic) utility that allows you to adjust volume by several ways:

  • by clicking with your left or right (volume up/down) mouse button on the icon in the system tray
  • through assigned system wide hot keys

With this app, you have control with either your keyboard or mouse. You can control volume and mute.

I currently have both solutions installed, and tend to be favouring VolumeTray. To be precise, I’m favouring the keyboard shortcuts provided by VolumeTray.

Part 3? Who knows.
