It seems that every job/career I’ve been in, is a constant source of media attention.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked for Australia’s largest telecommunications “provider”. So, my employer was often in the news for usually bad reasons.
Now that I’m a teacher, it seems that education is constantly in the news (or maybe I’m noticing it, although I notice that the big T is still in the news). It’s not just this last couple of weeks when Howard and Rudd have both sprouted their answer… it’s all the time.
It’s quite frustrating that after a looong day doing your best, some politician or researcher or general-know-it-all is on the radio as you drive home pointing out all the problems and if they do offer a solution, it’s usually a blanket solution that isn’t really going to work in the many and varied schools.
In this most recent debate, none of the “solutions”/“revolutions”/whatever, has made any real sense.
I guess other professions also face this public commentary, although it seems that health professionals are currently out of the news.
ps Dave, this post was for you (i.e. non-techy)
Thanks, Simon.
