Catch up TV

It’s great that we’re finally getting catch up TV from the major Australian TV networks. As I mentioned on Twitter, I’m into MasterChef – being on 6 days a week though, you’re bound to miss one. So, well done to Channel 10 for putting full episodes on the web. However…

Watching in a browser window is far from ideal. I say that as the wife and I sit at two different computers, both watching the same episode (me with headphones) – most people’s computers aren’t placed in a way that’s comfortable for two people (or more) to view.

The solution – download. We still need the TV networks to latch onto downloads.

Apple have worked this out. The Apple TV coupled with iTunes allows you to download TV episodes for some shows on Australian TV as soon as the day after it airs.

But, in Australia, Apple have no competition for downloadable TV

Another solution that you might be thinking is a PVR, but I still think there’s a place for downloads.

Simon,
I agree about the downloadable nature of TV – has to happen. But I have just recently had very negative experience downloading Rush from Itunes Store – many of the episodes are incomplete.

This is the sort of thing that discourages non-tech savvy people
Cheers
Simon

I’ve found that the iTunes Support responds quickly and will either refund or allow another download. Unfortunately, if their version is corrupt, they won’t email you to let you know when it’s fixed (so you can re-purchase).
