A web-site for podcasting Bible talks / sermons

Neil and I have been discussing the development of a web-site that will allow churches/preachers to have a space for the storage and distribution of audio talks, including podcasting.

The service would be separate to a churches web-site. A churches web-site would then link to their podcast site on our service.

Neil and I have been discussing a number of domain names for the service. We would like just one domain name, so it has to be generic enough whether a church calls talks “sermons” or “bibletalks”. It would also be nice to have the domain as short as possible.

Here are some domain names, along with some comments. A church would likely get to name a sub-domain, for example tac.domain.com. What are your thoughts about these names.

 • podr.com.au – wins on brevity, but could be a little obscure for more conservative churches to ‘get’
 • bibletalks.com.au – wins the P. Jensen award for ‘names I like the best’
 • churchtalks.com.au/.net.au – avoids ‘pod’, ‘sermon’, ‘bibletalks’
 • churchpod.net/org – is cute, if a little American sounding
 • bibletalkspodcast.com .com.au .net.au – is clear but too long…
 • churchtalks.com.au/.net.au – currently a favourite
 • sermonpod.org / .com.au/.net.au
 • sermonpodcasts.org .com.au / .net.au
 • bible-talks.com
 • weeklypod
 • weeklynod
 • weeklybibletalk
 • podchurch.net.au/.com.au

I’m with churchtalks.something or bibletalks.something. It’s simple, and ridiculously clear.

I hate to rain on the parade, but I think it’s already being done…

Nathan,

True, there are other services available a church could use, be they aimed at churches or not (e.g. libsyn). What we are looking at is serving mainly Australian churches, in particular Sydney Anglican ones. Also, does sermoncloud host files? All the churches I looked at were still hosting their own files, sermoncloud were providing a syndication mechanism.

Ah, good point about hosting. I am not sure if they host files. I’m guessing not. You’re right, a focused Australian/Sydney Anglican site does not yet exist for sermon podcasts. More power to ya, God bless!

Oh, and I meant to mention – I generally prefer a non ‘com’ domain (so ‘.net.au’ in preference to ‘.com.au’). Less commercial sounding.

bibletalks.net.au

churchtalks.net.au

Both good in my opinion…

I like both ‘churchtalks…’ and ‘bibletalks’ – both easy to remember, and short enough. I think avoiding ‘sermon’ is a good idea too.

Great idea, this, you guys. Looking forward to the beta!!

I’m with Keith on this, not having sermon in the name would be good.

This is a top idea. We’re podcasting all our sermons now (http://glenmorepark.anglican.asn.au/podcasts/) and we’re already running out of space on the diocese webservers :( I was looking at using something like divshare.com, but I just don’t know how reliable that would be. If you’re looking for beta testers we’re up for it!:

Sermoncloud does host files for those who choose to sign up via the sermoncloud.com website. We offer this as a free service to all those churches using our CMS product called Ekklesia 360 (http://www.ekklesia360.com)
