With the launch of the Mac App Store and my recent purchase of an iPhone, I’ve been installing a number of apps recently. Some are worthy of sharing with other Mac/iPhone users.

SizeUp

First up: SizeUp.

Before purchasing SizeUp I was using this companies earlier free version called 2Up. 2Up allowed you, with a keyboard shortcut, to move a window to the left or right half of the screen (yes, I know Windows 7 allows you to do that with the mouse). With a 27” monitor and often a lot of things going on, I find that my screen real estate can become fairly messy. 2Up helped reduce the clutter.

SizeUp does a better job. For one thing, you can partition the screen rather than 50-50. So, I have the right side 60% and the left side 40%. You can also move windows to one of the four quadrants, again using partitioning – I have the top as 40% and the bottom as 60%.

With a couple of keystrokes I can move mail to one quarter, whatever I’m watching on QuickTime to another, Firefox to another and the document I’m working on to another.

SizeUp is USD$13 (~ AUD$12.08) for Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) or later. There is a Demo version available.

On holidays, and I just finished reading HTML5 For Web Designers by Jeremy Keith.

If you’re a web designer, even a hobbyist, this is a fantastic book which summarises what HTML5 means for designing on the web. For me, it has pulled together and clarified a lot of bits and pieces I had seen in other articles around the web.

Writing on your blog seems like a good idea when you’re sitting here behind your computer…

… yet, it just seems incredibly geeky when someone in real life talks to you about it.

Channel 7 forget about HD

Categories: TV,

The recent launch of two new free-to-air TV channels in Australia (7mate and GEM) has meant that the main Channel 7 and 9 programming is no longer simulcast in HD.

7mate and GEM are HD only channels, with distinct programming. Channel 9 have noted that GEM will simulcast key sporting events that should be broadcast in HD. But, what doesn’t make sense to me is that Channel 7 is not broadcasting the Bathurst 1000 on the HD 7mate channel. Instead, you can watch Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files and Knight Rider.

Categories: This Site,

I’m currently upgrading my site(s) from ExpressionEngine version 1 to version 2.
So, some things are broken.

Working on them at the moment.

Update Seems it was easier than expected. After reloading new versions of used plugins and extensions, all seems to be working ok.
