If you haven’t noticed, social networking on the web is big, huge in fact. How does a church web-site get involved?

It’s been a while since our church had a reliable church calendar, that is, a calendar that was published and subsequently updated. In the past I’ve not put the calendar on the web-site, because it quickly became out of date. This year, it seems that our calendar may be more reliable, but it was being put together in Word! I needed to fix that.

So, after the last article I continued working on the beta. I took the comments on board (sort ot)… and turned on the beta version. It’s now the live front page of the TAC web-site.

The Toongabbie Anglican Church web-site was cutover on 1 Jan 2006. Two years on, I’m going to look at the front page of the site, freshen it up and tighten it’s focus.

Neil and I have been discussing the development of a web-site that will allow churches/preachers to have a space for the storage and distribution of audio talks, including podcasting.

The Toongabbie Anglican Church Carols event is happening soon, and like previous years a lot of effort goes into it. Of course, the event is advertised on the web-site – this year, however, “Web 2.0” made things much easier.

At the end of an article titled Buzzing your church on sydneyanglicans.net, Andrew Lim suggests making some money off your church site by adding Google Adsense. You can see his implementation on the Asian Bible Church site.

After the soft launch of the new Toongabbie Anglican Church web-site on 19th December, on Thursday (29 Dec) the old site was switched off (well redirected actually).

I haven’t really been keeping an eye on the stats for the old Toongabbie Anglican Church site, but I knew that around Christmas we receive lots of referrals from two sites. One being Google Images and the other, a site that links to wallpaper (for your computer).

Well, the time has finally come to launch the new site. A “soft launch”, by which I mean the old site will remain active for a while.
So, go check out the new site. Feel free to be critical and leave comments here. Bugs are welcome on the development blog.

ExpressionEngine 1.4 (previously 1.3.2) has been released with a load of added features. ExpressionEngine’s increasing featureset already sets it apart from other blogging software, and these new additions extend it’s functionality.

As part of the redesign of the Toongabbie Anglican Church web-site, I’ve been thinking about how to extend the usefulness of the church web-site for members.

Now that iTunes Australia is here and a podcasting service has been launched by SydneyAnglicans.net, podcasting is likely to take off in Sydney churches. But will that just mean audio sermons distributed via RSS, or something more?

Content is obviously important on any web-site, so how can we ensure the content of a church site is kept up-to-date?

If the number of blog entries is anything to go by, podcasting is the hot new internet trend. Churches are natural users of podcasting. If fact, the use of podcasts by churches has been given the name Godcast (tacky ah…).
